Imagine waking up to yet another news report of an unarmed black person being killed by the police or a random person. Imagine feeling the weight of not just that individual tragedy, but the centuries of systemic oppression and racism that have led to these events. It’s a heavy burden to bear! We acknowledge that these issues are not new, but have deeply impacted BIPOC communities for generations. As a black-owned therapy practice, our mission is to provide a space of compassion and empowerment for healing, where individuals from all walks of life can find solace and support on their path toward healing and wholeness.

Our Approach to Individual Therapy
Our Approach to Therapy: Discovering Your Authentic Self

At the Truth Center for Health & Healing, our approach to therapy is centered around supporting you in discovering your true authentic self. We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and heard, and we strive to empower you to recognize the power of your voice. Our therapists will explore with you the systems that you engage with on a daily basis, such as work, family, community, hometown, gender, race, religion, values, and belief systems. We will help you uncover the parts of yourself that you love, as well as the parts you may want to shift, to promote growth and self-acceptance.

Honoring the Wholeness of Every Individual

We recognize and acknowledge that you come from a diverse background and have multiple intersecting identities that shape your experiences. Our therapists are trained in providing intersectional and multicultural therapy, which takes into account the various aspects of identity, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and disability, among others. We understand that societal messages and systems of oppression can sometimes make it challenging for individuals from marginalized communities to feel whole and deserving of care. We are here to offer compassion, empathy, and warmth, and to support you on your healing journey.

Addressing Social Justice and Systemic Oppression

We provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore a wide range of topics related to social justice and systemic oppression. We are trained in addressing issues such as racism, sexism, genderism, anti-racism, ableism, religion, marginalization, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, guilt/shame, fear, anxiety, and depression, among others. We understand that these issues can have a significant impact on an individual’s mental health and well-being, and we are here to offer support, validation, and tools for coping and healing.

Telehealth Services: Accessing Care from Anywhere

The pandemic offered a unique circumstance for our society. It allowed people who had very limited access to therapeutic services to start taking care of themselves in a new way. Now we can also give space if attending in-person therapy sessions may be challenging for you. That’s why we offer telehealth services, using a secure and HIPAA-compliant platform, to provide accessible and convenient care. Telehealth allows you to access therapy from the comfort of your own home, eliminating barriers such as transportation, distance, and scheduling conflicts. We are committed to making therapy accessible to all individuals, regardless of their location in Pennsylvania.

Frequently Asked Questions

A BIPOC-informed therapist understands that mental health does not exist in a vacuum. Our emotional experiences are shaped by race, culture, history, power, and lived realities. Working with a therapist who is culturally responsive helps reduce the need to explain or justify your experiences with racism, microaggressions, code-switching, or cultural expectations.

At Truth Center, BIPOC-informed care means your experiences are contextualized, not minimized, pathologized, or overlooked, especially when you are seeking a Black therapist serving Wynnewood who truly understands the nuances of your identity.

Racial trauma and weathering refer to the cumulative emotional, psychological, and physical toll of ongoing exposure to racism, discrimination, and chronic stress. This can show up as anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, exhaustion, health concerns, or emotional shutdown.

We address racial trauma by:

  • Naming and validating lived experiences of racism and oppression
  • Exploring how chronic stress impacts the nervous system and body
  • Supporting emotional regulation, boundary-setting, and rest
  • Integrating trauma-informed and somatic approaches when appropriate

Healing includes both honoring your resilience and tending to the cost of carrying so much for so long.

Yes. Cultural humility is foundational to our work.

We honor your cultural values, family structures, spiritual beliefs, and community norms. Therapy at Truth Center is not about asking you to abandon who you are; it’s about helping you navigate challenges while remaining rooted in your identity.

We collaborate with you to guarantee therapy feels aligned, respectful, and relevant to your lived experience.

Absolutely. You are not just one thing.

We intentionally make space to explore how your identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, faith, immigration status, class, parenthood, or professional role, intersect and shape your experiences. These layers often influence how you move through the world, relate to others, and experience safety or stress.

At Truth Center, your full identity is welcomed and held with care. Our specialized approach to individual therapy serving Bala Cynwyd provides a local resource for those seeking to break free from unhealthy patterns and reclaim their authentic selves.

You’re not alone and you’re not wrong for feeling hesitant.

Many clients come to us after therapy experiences where they felt misunderstood, unheard, judged, or culturally misaligned. We take time to understand what didn’t work before and what you need now.

Therapy with us is collaborative, transparent, and paced with your safety in mind. Trust is built over time, and your feedback matters. Healing does not require forcing vulnerability; it requires feeling seen, respected, and supported.
