Learn About Our Graduate Intern Therapists
It's important for clients to be aware of the potential changes in their therapy sessions due to the nature of internships. Interns remain with the practice for about 1 year and may or may not remain with the practice after they graduate. This means upon completion of their graduate program, sessions will end with your intern therapist and/or you will transition to another therapist on our team.
Advantages Of Engaging With An Intern
There are numerous advantages to collaborating with a graduate intern, particularly for therapists:
-
Cost-Effective Therapy Sessions: Our interns, all nearing the completion of their master's programs, offering therapy sessions at significantly reduced rates. Their fees typically amount to half or one-third of the charges of other therapists, with the added benefit of flexible sliding scales.
-
Access to Diverse Supervisory Expertise: Interns benefit from supervision, training, and guidance from multiple seasoned therapists. This includes regular sessions with the therapists within our facility, as well as mentoring from professors and program liaisons at their university. This extensive oversight ensures interns are continually engaged in reflection, professional development, and enhancing their therapeutic skills.
-
Embracing the 'Beginner's Mind': Interns, embarking on their journey as therapists, bring a fresh perspective and boundless enthusiasm to their practice. Their curiosity, excitement, and creativity invigorate the therapeutic process, offering a dynamic approach to sessions.
-
Enhanced Passion and Vigor: Unencumbered by the weight of vicarious trauma or burnout, interns exude a vibrant energy and genuine zeal for their work. They are eager to embark on their new career, eagerly offering compassion, connection, and validation to clients.
-
Cutting-Edge Practice Standards: Graduate students are immersed in intensive learning, staying abreast of the latest research, discussions, and supervised practice. While therapists may struggle to keep pace with evolving practices, interns are equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques. Their ongoing studies ensure they remain current with the latest findings in the field, providing clients with the most up-to-date therapeutic approaches.
